Pittsburgh winters are hard on parking lots

Pittsburgh typically sees around 40 inches of snow a season, usually spread over many smaller storms, with plenty of freezing rain and overnight refreezing in between. Add the hills, tight lots and shaded corners, and a property can need service many times in a single winter. That makes it worth lining up a contractor before the first storm, not during it.

A good request makes quoting fast: the address, roughly how many parking spaces or how many acres, whether you need salting and sidewalks as well as plowing, any opening time the lot has to be clear by, and whether you'd prefer a seasonal contract or per-push pricing. Not sure which contract fits? Read seasonal vs per-push contracts.

Snow removal FAQ

Are you a snow plowing company?

No. Pittsburgh Snow Plowing is a free quote-matching service. We pass your request to independent local snow plowing and snow removal contractors that serve your area and property type. Pricing, scheduling and contract terms are agreed directly between you and the contractor you choose.

What's the difference between a seasonal contract and per-push pricing?

A seasonal contract is a fixed price for the whole winter, with plowing whenever snow reaches the agreed trigger depth. Per-push means you pay each time the lot is plowed, so cost depends on the winter. Per-event pricing charges once per storm, usually tiered by snowfall. Seasonal contracts give a predictable budget; per-push can cost less in a light winter. See our seasonal vs per-push page for details.

How much does commercial snow plowing cost in Pittsburgh?

It depends on lot size, layout, hills, trigger depth, whether salting and sidewalks are included, required clearing times, and how far the property is from the contractor's other routes. A small office lot and a large retail plaza are priced very differently, which is why the form asks for the number of parking spaces or acreage. Contractors give real numbers after reviewing the property.

What is a trigger depth?

The snowfall depth at which the contractor starts plowing, commonly 1 or 2 inches for commercial lots. Below the trigger, the contractor typically salts instead. Lower triggers mean more pushes and higher cost but cleaner pavement.
