In Western Pennsylvania, ice is often a bigger problem than snow. Freezing rain, refreezing melt from snow piles, and shaded north-facing areas can turn a cleared lot into a skating rink overnight. Salting and de-icing services spread material on lots, drive lanes, walks, steps and entrances to prevent and break up ice.
Common materials include bulk rock salt, which works well down to roughly the mid-teens °F; treated or blended salt, which works at lower temperatures and with less material; liquid brine applied before a storm (anti-icing) so snow and ice don't bond to the pavement; and calcium or magnesium chloride ice melt for sidewalks, steps and very cold nights. Pet-safe and concrete-friendlier products are available for entrances and newer concrete.
Salting can be priced per application, per event, or included in a seasonal contract. Tell us the property type, lot size, and whether you need salting only or salting along with plowing and sidewalk clearing, and local contractors will follow up with options.
