Common questions about commercial snow plowing, salting, seasonal contracts and how our free matching service works.
No. Pittsburgh Snow Plowing is a free quote-matching service. We pass your request to independent local snow plowing and snow removal contractors that serve your area and property type. Pricing, scheduling and contract terms are agreed directly between you and the contractor you choose.
A seasonal contract is a fixed price for the whole winter, with plowing whenever snow reaches the agreed trigger depth. Per-push means you pay each time the lot is plowed, so cost depends on the winter. Per-event pricing charges once per storm, usually tiered by snowfall. Seasonal contracts give a predictable budget; per-push can cost less in a light winter. See our seasonal vs per-push page for details.
It depends on lot size, layout, hills, trigger depth, whether salting and sidewalks are included, required clearing times, and how far the property is from the contractor's other routes. A small office lot and a large retail plaza are priced very differently, which is why the form asks for the number of parking spaces or acreage. Contractors give real numbers after reviewing the property.
The snowfall depth at which the contractor starts plowing, commonly 1 or 2 inches for commercial lots. Below the trigger, the contractor typically salts instead. Lower triggers mean more pushes and higher cost but cleaner pavement.
Sometimes. Some seasonal contracts include salting; others price it per application. Ask for salting to be listed separately so you can compare quotes fairly. Liquid brine pre-treatment before storms is another option for busy lots.
Yes. Many contractors offer sidewalk shoveling, snow blowing and walk salting along with lot plowing. Check the sidewalks box in the form and estimate how many entrances and how much walkway you have.
Some local snow contractors take residential driveways, especially long, steep or shared drives, but availability depends on your neighborhood and their routes. Submit a request and we'll pass it to contractors serving your area.
The earlier the better. Many Pittsburgh-area contractors book commercial seasonal accounts in late summer and fall and have limited route space once winter starts. Mid-season requests are still welcome, especially for per-push or one-time service.
